I do not want to go to School!

This is the first week of the new school year. It is morning and the kids are walking to the bus stops. Their gate is slow and the expression on their faces indicates that they are going somewhere they do not want to go.

Florida has a 59% dropout rate. Florida is ranked number 3 in the nation and Pinellas County is ranked number 1 in the state.

A few years back, state leaders in a response to low achievement now require all students to take the FCAT. In theory, this was to increase student achievement. It may have in fact increased the dropout rate and gave the illusion that achievement was increased.

The expressions on students' faces and their gate indicates that they are not willing students. They acted like they are going to school under duress.
